Online Teaching Pros & Cons: 1 Year Update

As I am coming up on my first year of online teaching, I thought I would round up my pros and cons to teaching in this format. For me personally, it has been a wonderful opportunity and part time job. Of course there have been some hiccups along the way, as with anything else. However, my overall experience has been extremely positive!

TOP 5 PROS

1.Hours

I love that I get to work when my little is asleep and not have to worry about child care. It is seriously a dream!

2.Flexibility

Creating my own schedule has been so nice! I get to work when I want and for how long I want. Also, not asking to take off is pretty great too!

3.Teaching What I Want

There are so many different levels and types of classes, it is nice to have the flexibility to teach in the realm I feel most confident in.

4.Online Portal

I really appreciate that everything is housed in one place. It makes things so accessible and easy! Also having the app is amazing.

5.Students

The majority of students are so fun to teach and build relationships with!

TOP 5 CONS

1.Technology

Whether you’re a classroom teacher, or online…it’s just part of it.

2.Bookings

Bookings fluctuate depending on the time of the year. Just be patient and things will happen!

3.Cancellations

There are policies and guidelines to cancellations. Just be aware and knowledgeable of them!

4.Taxes

You are an independent contractor and responsible for your taxes!

5.Always Changing

Just part of education….

Please let me know if you have additional questions or are interested in applying. You do not have to be a teacher! I am happy to help in any way, and am an open book! You can contact me through e-mail (jaclynwhitmore@gmail.com) with anything!

Pinterest Meal Success!

I don’t know about you, but I could browse through Pinterest way longer than I’d like to admit. I love getting inspiration on many things, especially when it comes to food! I feel like it is so easy to get in a food rut of rotating through the basic handful of meals your family enjoys eating.

My husband and I recently decided we were going to try one new recipe a week. If we liked it, we would add it to our google doc of favorite recipes to reference when meal planning. If we didn’t like it….well at least we tried. We find recipes from many different places, and tweak them to make them our own. I thought I would share five Pinterest recipes we have tried and love! Let me know if you end up making one!

1.Keto Cheesy Mexican Skillet (Recipe Pin)

This is made with riced cauliflower and it is delicious! We use rotisserie chicken to make it easy!

2.Veggie Loaded Rotisserie Chicken Casserole (Recipe Pin)

We have made this several times and love it! I leave out the spinach for the Hubby and it is still tasty! You can also do sour cream instead of yogurt, which we have done!

3.Pioneer Woman Bowtie Lasagna (Recipe Pin)

We love this dish for a treat night! We like to pair it with a light Caesar Salad!

4.Sausage Egg & Cheese Bites (Recipe Pin)

These are great to make for the week and heat up in the morning! Our toddler loves them! I just use regular flour instead of coconut.

5.Dump-and-Bake Chicken Caprese Pasta (Recipe Pin)

This pasta has a very “light” feel. We like to pair it with a side salad!

3 Things We Do In Our Marriage

Today my husband and I are celebrating our 4 year anniversary. We have had an amazing 4 years (7 together) filled with love, laughter, travel, memories, and change. Our relationship is far from perfect. It continues to evolve and shift as we grow, not only as individuals but as a collective unit. I know there is still so much to learn when it comes to marriage, and I am excited to gain the wisdom along the way.

I thought it would be fun to share 3 things we do that add value to our marriage and relationship. They are small actions that have made a big impact, aside from all of the things that create a solid foundation.

1. Dinner At The Table

We have done this since day one, and I am so thankful we created a valuable habit. We have quiet, uninterrupted time every night where we can connect and just enjoy each other as a family. Even if we order pizza, we still sit and eat together. There are so many distractions in today’s culture, it is easy to forget how important that time can be. There really is something to it!

2. Verbal Thank Yous

My husband is SO good about always thanking me for everything including the day to day things like the laundry, dishes, etc. He has consistently shown me the power of words. We all want to feel appreciated and acknowledged for our efforts. It is easy to just expect or assume our partner will take care of a certain chore/task BUT taking the time to say thank you truly goes a long way! It takes 5 seconds to acknowledge and appreciate!

3. Ask What Is Needed

The best thing after a long day is being asked what you need. Sometimes it may be a hot bath, alone time, or a nap. Checking in on the other person every day helps the communication stay strong and clear. We always do a check in with each other and try to help out any way we can. It once again is something that takes 5 seconds, but is so valuable.

I would love to know some things you and your partner do that are important in your marriage or relationship! As always, stay blessed!
