As I am coming up on my first year of online teaching, I thought I would round up my pros and cons to teaching in this format. For me personally, it has been a wonderful opportunity and part time job. Of course there have been some hiccups along the way, as with anything else. However, my overall experience has been extremely positive!
TOP 5 PROS
1.Hours
I love that I get to work when my little is asleep and not have to worry about child care. It is seriously a dream!
2.Flexibility
Creating my own schedule has been so nice! I get to work when I want and for how long I want. Also, not asking to take off is pretty great too!
3.Teaching What I Want
There are so many different levels and types of classes, it is nice to have the flexibility to teach in the realm I feel most confident in.
4.Online Portal
I really appreciate that everything is housed in one place. It makes things so accessible and easy! Also having the app is amazing.
5.Students
The majority of students are so fun to teach and build relationships with!
TOP 5 CONS
1.Technology
Whether you’re a classroom teacher, or online…it’s just part of it.
2.Bookings
Bookings fluctuate depending on the time of the year. Just be patient and things will happen!
3.Cancellations
There are policies and guidelines to cancellations. Just be aware and knowledgeable of them!
4.Taxes
You are an independent contractor and responsible for your taxes!
5.Always Changing
Just part of education….
