Every morning when I teach, I set up and take down my “classroom”. We do not have a home office, so I use our guest room as my work space. Surprisingly, it works perfect for me. I am able to keep all of my materials together and out of sight. Over the past six months I have taught almost every unit in the levels I am certified in, so I have learned what props or visuals I actually need to help the students understand a concept. I also borrow toys ALL the time from my son, which makes things super convenient.
Teaching online does not require a lot of money upfront for materials. I have slowly gathered things as I have taught different units and only purchase things that are cheap or a good deal (story of my life). I thought I would share what I use to teach and how I keep it organized.
I keep everything I need in a dresser drawer. I have 1 basket of “props”, 1 basket of “rewards”, my “lesson plans”, whiteboard, and a basket with my headset/ethernet cord.
My one basket of “props” (dollar tree) includes finger puppets, felt food, markers, number cards, alphabet cards (pictures included on back), and candles.
My second basket includes “rewards” which I also use as visuals when needed!
Every now and then I will grab some toys (or clothes) when they fit with a specific lesson or unit. I have found this is all I truly need and I honestly like to keep things as simple as I can. Lesson planning, bookings and “prep” time coming soon!
If you are curious or interested in possibly teaching online, please contact me. I would be happy to help in any way possible, or answer any questions you may have. You do not have to be a teacher or have teaching experience.
