Full Day Of Eating: Postpartum & Breastfeeding

I recently shared some things I am focusing on during my postpartum wellness journey. You can check that out here: Postpartum Wellness. I thought I would piggy back off that post and share what a typical day of eating looks like for me during this season. I am personally not trying to cut calories due to breastfeeding, and am only able to walk until I am cleared for additional exercise. Some days I eat more based off how hungry I am, but I always eat all three meals and a couple snacks to make sure I am properly fueling my body during recovery and nursing.

I do not eat the same thing every day, this is just an example of one! I would love to know any current favorite meals or snacks that I should try!

Breakfast: Smoothie, Bar, Coffee

Snack: Trail Mix

Lunch: Grilled Turkey Wrap, Carrots, Veggie Straws, Ranch

Snack: Fruit, Turkey Sticks

Dinner: Enchilada Casserole, Roasted Veggies

Snack: PB Crackers

As always, sending light and love!

Postpartum Wellness

Our littlest love is officially a month old, and we are loving every second with him! I am feeling more “normal” each day, and am so ready to get into an exercise routine. Not being able to work out really reminds me how much of a privilege it is to move and use my body. Since I will not be cleared until the 6 week mark to resume any normal activity, I have been focusing on other wellness areas. I feel like it is so important for moms to make their wellness a priority with every season. I always remind myself of the saying “you can not pour from an empty cup” and really try to make sure I am not neglecting my personal well-being.

I thought I would share some areas I am focusing on during these 6 weeks of recovery, postpartum, and newborn life. I would love to know anything you did that filled your cup!

1.Walks

I started doing nightly walks during my pregnancy, and they were something I really looked forward to each week. I would go anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, and loved having some quiet time where I could just be. I have continued walks 3-4 times a week, and it has been something that has made a huge difference! It also feels so good to get out and move.

2.Morning Gratitude

I have shared many times about my morning routine and setting myself up for a positive day. I think it is so important (especially in this season) to take a step back and be intentional about the daily blessings. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the every day tasks and feel drained when you are not fully rested. Taking care of your mental health is a huge component of wellness and so important. I personally read my bible, write a gratitude list, and write my goals/intentions for the year.

3.Naps

Since our son is only a month, I have not implemented any type of strict routine. I have mainly followed his lead and am slowly incorporating more structure as he grows. He is pretty consistent with his night stretches, however I am still pretty tired throughout the day. Napping when both boys nap has been so beneficial for my emotional health. Slowing down and giving my body the rest it needs allows me to stay joyful during this season and keep up with our toddler. It is okay to rest and take advantage of sleep times!

4.Balanced Eating

I am in no rush to lose the extra baby weight I currently have. It took me 10 months to gain 30 pounds, so I have to keep realistic expectations with losing it. Even though I would love to be at the weight where I feel the healthiest and most comfortable, my focus is not on any type of food restriction or deficit. It is actually the opposite with exclusively breastfeeding. I am trying to make sure I consume enough calories to keep my milk supply up with as many nutrient dense foods as possible. Incorporating as many fruits, vegetables, and nutritional variety has been my main goal and will continue to be for awhile.

5.Water

Staying hydrated is crucial with my own recovery and milk supply. My body is able to function more efficiently when I am hydrated and giving it what it needs. I personally aim for around 120 ounces a day!

Bonus: Nightly Skin Care

Having the time every night to take a shower and do my skin care just makes me feel good and like myself! It gives me something to look forward to and is nice to feel “pampered”.

Maintaining A Tidy Home With Newborn

If you have followed my posts, or know me personally you know I do not do well with clutter. I like things to be organized and personally function way better when things don’t feel chaotic to me. I have shared multiple posts covering different topics that you can check out here: Top 3 Tips To Decluttering Your Space, Maintaining A Tidy Home, 5 Tips To Stay Organized, Putting The House To Bed, Waking Up The Day, and Family Systems & Organization.

Today I wanted to share some easy ways to stay organized while having a newborn. Things can feel extremely chaotic during the newborn season, especially for first time parents. Here are five things that have worked for our family! I would love to know anything that worked well for yours!

1.Have Systems Decided Before Baby

Having things organized before the baby arrives is so helpful. I like to have a place or “home” for everything just so it is easy for me, my husband, or my toddler to access/put away. I know where everything is, and only have out what we truly need. Items that will be used in different stages are stored in the attic to prevent unnecessary clutter.

2.Put The House To Bed

I don’t know about you, but I have to have the house picked up and organized before I go to bed for the night. It takes me about 10 minutes and is worth it waking up to a tidy home. You can check out what I like to do in the post linked above!

3.Do A Little Something Every Day

Not overwhelming yourself during this season is huge. Choosing 1-2 small tasks every day will help things not pile up and make you feel productive without having a mile long list. It could be as simple as a load of laundry, vacuuming, picking up groceries, etc.

4.Find Right Times

With a newborn your schedule completely shifts and alters based on them. Recognizing that you will have to find your groove and discover new times or opportunities to get things done will help eliminate some stress. Follow their lead and alter your mindset so you can do what you want to do!

5.Ask/Hire Help

If you are struggling and feel completely overwhelmed ask for help or hire someone. With our first son, my mom would clean our home and do chores while we were working which was a life saver! It is okay to not do it all yourself!

As always, sending light and love!
