Baby Products We Used For 12 Weeks Or Less

As our son is approaching three months, I thought I would share products we have already outgrown. You can check out products we used for the first two weeks here and the first six weeks here. I feel like you barely get to use anything the first year, aside from things like the car seat, crib, etc. It is funny when I look back and realize we only use certain products for 1-2 months total. I thought I would share the products we have outgrown as well as my thoughts on them!

1.Diapers (Newborn, Size 1, Size 2)

Our son was born at 8 pounds, 1 ounce and has grown like a weed since then. He was 14.5 pounds at his 2 month appointment and has already flown through diaper sizes. I always recommend people asking for multiple sizes because you can always exchange them in store. Our favorite diapers are the Pampers Swaddlers!

2.Sleep Sack Swaddles

Both of our boys were not the biggest fans of being swaddled. They preferred their arms out, so swaddles did not last long in our house. I think both transitioned to a regular sleep sack around one month. I really like the Halo newborn swaddle sleep sacks!

3.Swing

We tried using the Mamaroo with both boys and they were not the biggest fans. They liked it for a couple weeks and then were over it for some reason. I do think it is a great option if your baby likes it!

4.Lounger

We have loved having loungers, however since our son has grown so fast they haven’t lasted long. We used the Boppy when he was a newborn and are currently using this. We have enjoyed both!

5.Bassinet

We have officially moved our son to his crib due to his size and being too large in the bassinet. I am so thankful we have a bed in his room I can sleep in this next month! We really enjoyed the Halo one, but I know there are so many great options.

We have also flown through clothes are are currently on 6-9 months. Hopefully this have some perspective on items and how fast you can go through them with a baby!

As always, sending light and love!

Breastfeeding & Pumping With Baby 2

I shared a post going over what I learned while nursing our older son that you can check out here: Breastfeeding Lessons. I thought I would circle back to that post and see if I had anything to add while I am currently nursing our younger son. I also wanted to note any similarities or differences between our two boys and my personal experiences with each. I would love to know anything you learned during your nursing/pumping journey if you chose that route!

1.Resources

I still think this is still super important to take advantage of if you need help. Even though I exclusively nursed our older son and was comfortable with it the second time around, I still met with lactation consultants in the hospital and had them available at the pediatrician’s office if needed. I quickly learned our boys were very different with nursing when it came to preferences and styles. My body also responded a little differently the second time around (engorgement and clogged ducts). I share more on that here. Every baby is so different and it truly is all about figuring them out!

2.Talk To Moms

Once again I still think this is extremely important and beneficial. Having friends to confide in about a personal topic can be such a relief and help you feel like you aren’t alone. I like to be as upfront and honest with my friends when it comes to anything mom related because I feel like things aren’t talked about or normalized enough. Your journey and experience is going to be different from someone else which is totally okay and normal. Even with my same body, the two experiences have been different!

3.Find What Works For You

I am a huge advocate of doing what is best for YOU and BABY. There is no right way to do things and you have to figure out what works best for your family. Both our boys love to nurse however our older son would nurse 15ish minutes each side while our younger only does 5ish. Our younger son also falls asleep easily so I have to do his diaper changes in between sides to wake him up, unlike our older. It takes time and is a learning process for you and baby!

4.Take Advantage Of Pumping

I still think pumping is a great tool to have while nursing to give you some freedom, flexibility and help! Once again I am a huge advocate of figuring out what works best for your body and baby. I personally did not start pumping until 6ish weeks when our boys started sleeping longer stretches at night. I chose to then nurse one side and pump the other to collect a bottle a day for a freezer stash. This is what I personally like to do so I am not scheduling in additional “feeding” times.

5.Take Care Of You

This is SO important no matter what stage you are at! Listen to your body, love on it and give it what it needs!

At the end of the day a fed baby is all that matters! Stay tuned on my YouTube for my top 10 nursing/pumping items! As always, sending light and love!

Pregnancy Gift Guide: First Trimester

I recently gifted a pregnancy basket filled with random goodies and thought I would share things I like to include when congratulating someone on a pregnancy. I feel like many people like to gift things specific to the baby (which is great), however I like to be intentional about things for the Momma as well! What were some of your most used items during the first trimester?

1.Gatorade/Gatorade Zero

This was such an essential for me with the nausea! If the person you are gifting to does not like Gatorade you could always do a Vitamin Water or some type of powder to add to water that has some electrolytes (ex: liquid iv).

2.Jolly Ranchers

This also helped with my nausea, especially teaching early mornings. I know many women also like Preggie Pops!

3.Approved Medicines

I like throwing in some approved medicines that are pretty common or used during the first trimester such as Tylenol, B6/Unisom, Antacids, etc…

4.Button Down Pajamas

Pajamas are another easy go because they can be worn throughout with the belly, during the hospital and after. I like to size up 1-2 sizes as well as get a button option for skin to skin/nursing. Target always has great options!

5.Belly Butter

I loved using a belly butter and oil during and after my pregnancies! They help keep the skin hydrated while it is stretching and feel so good.

6.Maternity Staples

I love gifting basic maternity staples such as solid tees. Target has great ones with a wide color selection! You could also do leggings, sweats, etc depending on the season.

7.Parenting Book

There are so many great parenting books out there where you can choose one that fits the person’s personality. I recently gifted the book Crib Sheet!

8.Baby Books

As a former first grade teacher I absolutely love children’s books! I like to gift a couple of small board books, especially any from Sandra Boynton!

9.Water Tumbler

I have a few favorite water cups but my current favorite is linked here!

10.Baby Item

Throwing in 1-2 baby items along with the books is a nice way to show excitement for mom and baby! I feel like Sophie or Wubbanubs are always on baby lists!

I also have a pregnancy essentials video you can check out here for more ideas!

As always, sending light and love!
